Soval Flow
Aufguss & Saunagus
About Soval Flow
I practice both the German Modern Classic (Aufguss) and Danish Wellness (Saunagus) traditions, balancing the dynamic and athletic impulse of Aufguss with the gentle, lingering depth of Saunagus — the Yin and Yang within my craft. My name is Darren and I am based in Straubing, Germany.
Authenticity and Focus
I enjoy show (costumes, highly choreographed towel waving) and mediatative (sound bowls, breath control) Aufguss, but only as a guest. I love it when an Aufgussmeister brings something into the sauna cabin that is authentic and unique to them, something that others can't deliver in quite the same way, their own signature style and vibe. So I purposely do not try to offer everything or to be everything.
Consistent Quality
I bring materials to my sessions that are high in quality but that also don't break the bank. For my sessions I source my individual oils for Saunagus from brands like Aromen and my blends for Aufguss from brands like Primavera. I source my Saunahonigcreme, a rich, pleasant, and fragrant wellness creme that is neither sticky nor oily (perfect for Biosauna but not restricted to it), from Vitalis. I am also developing my own homemade Saunahonigcreme that is inspired by it.
Music Free Sessions
In my current music-free sessions, I guide my guests into an experience of flow marked by presence and intention. I do use advanced towel waving techniques in my Aufguss, but the emphasis is on rhythm and atmosphere rather than on impact and spectacle. I take deep grounding breaths during pauses in my Saunagus, but I do not lead the cabin in breath work.
Music Based Aufguss Themes
In my future music based sessions, I plan to mostly avoid outward themes and to instead work more with inward, universally human states and experiences — inner ‘places’ that are partially but not fully defined, with an invitation to bring your own interpretation. And it is intended that the emotional heat waves would land cleanly with impact but tempered by the same control as the physical heat. An important feature of Modern Classic Aufguss is that an entire three part emotional or thematic arc is traversed in each 12 minute session.
Music Based Saunagus Signature Vibe
My future music based Saunagus sessions will draw from my emotional color palette — deep blue atmospheric reflection, warm-emotional magenta, and purple soft melancholy. But unlike Aufguss, we will linger within one of these emotional arc components for the entire 12 minute session. Therefore it is helpful to think of Saunagus sessions in terms of "blocks". A Professional Hobby

Keeping It Flexible
The idea is to offer occasional Aufguss sessions as an independent facilitator that enrich small (i.e. no in-house Aufgussmeister) or large saunas (i.e. with an Aufguss team) without making long term commitments or changing your culture, as a way to practice something that I enjoy doing, while I keep my day job as a research modeling and simulation engineer (which I also enjoy 😁). Occasionally bringing in a fresh face and style will not cause tension against the house culture, but instead will enrich it. For saunas that already have their own stocked oils and blends, it would be more sustainable for me financially if I have the option to use them in my sessions.
Keeping It Fun
I currently do sessions free of charge even though I strive for professional level in terms of quality and execution, because that pursuit is fun for me. It is normal to be a bit obsessive about one's own hobby because that is the whole point of a hobby 😁. I have been enjoying the opportunity of exploring my signature style, and of refining my craft. And the guests so far have enjoyed being in this journey with me, knowing that every idea might not be perfect. But their feedback so far has been overwhelmingly positive, and has helped me to make my sessions better each time.

How It Started
A Short-Lived Reign As A Fitness King
Because of WellPass, I had unlimited access to an extensive network of fitness studios and swimming facilities. Since the Aquatherm Sauna was also in this network, I had the privilege and pleasure of being a "Stammkunde" there for nearly 3 years, usually visiting at least 3 times per week, and oftentimes more. This is where I fell in love with Aufguss and realized that a good Aufguss on the way home from work is a small piece of heaven.

Finding Myself On The Other Side of the Table
When my wife changed employer I lost access to WellPass, but I wanted to keep my nearly daily Aufguss routine, so I picked up the bucket and ladle at the Vitadrom Wellness Gym Sauna and started waving my blue and red Gecko towel because they allow members to do their own Aufguss. And the rest has been history.
Developing and Formalizing My Craft
Soval Flow has been developing through a combination of immersion, consistent practice, and formal training.

Immersion
Nearly three years of regular immersion in Aufguss by visiting Aquatherm several times per week as a guest.
Other saunas that have significantly influenced my craft include Elypso (Deggendorf), Westbad (Regensburg), Meerzeit (Büsum), Saunapark Siebengebirge (Königswinter), FIX (Manchester, UK), and Heat Harmony (Copenhagen, Denmark)
Consistent Practice
Regularly facilitating Aufguss and Saunagus sessions at the Vitadrom Wellness Gym Sauna in Straubing since February 2026 as a gym member (not paid, not on staff, and not on a fixed schedule), at least 5 sessions per week. I would estimate that I have done nearly 150 Aufgüsse so far.
Saunagus Training
Certified as a Saunagusmeister in July 2026 by completing the "Gusmester" training course at Heat Harmony Sauna in Copenhagen, Denmark. I attended three Saunagus sessions from three different facilitators as a guest before participating in this training. Notably this training course included instruction for using music and the practical exam required the use of music.

First Aid Training
First Aid Training at LUKE's in Straubing in August 2026. Although this is not directly craft specific, it is important to certify that I can be responsible for the safety of my guests.
Aufguss Training
Planned Aufgussmeister certification in September 2026 as "Saunafachkraft - Aufguss" through participation in a two day course offered by the Deutsche Sauna Bund in Bielefeld, Germany. It will formalize what I already practice every week, and will be helpful for expanding recognition beyond the sauna facilities that already know me.
